Robert Smedley first gained prominence in the heavy vehicle industry as a member of Knorr-Bremse’s global team of advanced braking technology experts.
Robert’s later role as the engineer responsible for the first Australian-built Kenworth trucks to be fitted with ‘ESP’ continues to be recognised. This high-level experience saw him appointed as Principal Engineer (Heavy Vehicle Freight Network) for the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads, where he advised on technical issues relating to the construction and dynamic performance of heavy vehicles.
In 2013, Robert joined with his father Alan to regenerate the Smedley family’s innovative leadership in heavy vehicle engineering consulting.
Robert is now the director of Smedley’s Engineers, and maintains a high level of involvement in the industry through his participation in industry reference groups and associations and at industry events.
