The Australian Government has released a consultation paper on safer and wider trucks and trailers, including increasing width from 2.5 metres to 2.55 or 2.6 metres.

The ATA submission identifies clear benefits from moving to a 2.6 metre width for both trucks and trailers. This includes proposed new safety technology standards, improvements to thermal efficiency for refrigerated vehicles, roll stability and work health and safety. It would also remove the $30 million per year cost of redesigning US and EU designed trucks models for the Australian market.
