Peter Austin is the Director of Policy Implementation at the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, with oversight over vehicle standards, road access policy, and industry advice and guidance.

In this role, he has orchestrated the creation, execution, and evaluation of prescriptive and performance-based vehicle safety measures, regulations, criteria and frameworks.

He has also coordinated the organisation’s contribution to state, territory and federal road safety strategies and action plans, focusing on safer vehicle and safer operator outcomes.

Before he joined the NHVR in 2015, Peter was a Principal Policy Officer with the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads.
