In 2024, the ATA’s TruckSafe program will move from a prescriptive accreditation scheme to a simple and flexible risk-based safety management system. 

Safety management systems provide a safer work environment for employees, customers, contractors and the public. They are an effective way to manage your safety duty obligations under the HVNL and work health and safety laws. 

The new TruckSafe SMS was developed with the support of a working group consisting of road transport operators, heavy vehicle auditors and our counterparts at the New Zealand Trucking Association for an international perspective. 

It is practical, realistic and can be tailored to suit your business.
