On 4 March 2026, the National Transport Commission released the Heavy Vehicle National Amendment Regulation (Miscellaneous Amendments) 2026 for consultation.
This submission supports the proposed amendments, noting that the changes strengthen the Heavy Vehicle National Law by refining existing requirements and resolving areas of uncertainty for operators, regulators and enforcement authorities.
A central focus of the ATA’s submission is the amendment relating to rear bump devices. The proposed changes allow rear bump devices to be disregarded when measuring a vehicle’s length, provided specific conditions are met.
