Technical Advisory Procedures
Introduction
Technical Advisory Procedures (TAPs) – Supporting a Safe, Progressive & Sustainable Industry.
These TAPs, developed by the Australian Trucking Association Ltd (ATA), are an industry leading resource produced with the aim to support the road transport industry in operating more efficiently and safely. To increase the level of professionalism, and permit readers to become more informed about an industry topic.
TAPs are written and produced by a panel of industry experts drawn from the ATA Industry technical council who are knowledgeable in the relevant fields. Each TAP is drafted with precision to reflect current industry standards, new and emerging technologies and real-world applications. TAPs are independently peer reviewed prior to publication. Periodic reviews are conducted to ensure published content is up to date and reflects best practices.
TAPs are intended as general guidance only—they are not exhaustive, and exceptions may apply. Implementation of the recommendations remains entirely voluntary and may not suit every operational context. Operators are encouraged to assess their own unique circumstances, processes, and risk management strategies before applying any part of these guidelines.
It is essential that all operators continue to comply with mandatory requirements, including the Australian Design Rules (ADRs), Australian Vehicle Standards Regulations, the Roadworthiness Guidelines, and any manufacturer-specific instructions related to vehicle systems and components.
Any mention of commercial products or brand names within these TAPs is purely for illustrative and informational purposes and does not constitute an endorsement by the ATA.
Hard copies are available for organisations. Organisations requiring multiple copies have permission to reprint.
